Mausoleum Guidelines

Mt. Olivet Cemetery will designate the location (s) in which above-ground entombment mausoleums will be permitted. At the present time, mausoleums will be permitted at the end of Section 6.

All mausoleums will be placed in this area so that sufficient space surrounds each placement to permit maintenance of the grounds, entombment and repair service to the mausoleum from any direction as well as service to those nearby, and related aesthetic considerations. The exact location of the mausoleum within each respective plot will be determined by the cemetery.

Mt. Olivet will, on a case-by-case basis, determine the size of the plot needed to accommodate the mausoleum.

Walk-in models are not available at the present time due to space restrictions.

Mausoleums must permit end load access to individual crypts.

Each mausoleum will be set on a poured, reinforced concrete foundation. Depending on the size of the mausoleum, foundations will be a minimum of 4 _ feet thick. The foundation plan must be stamped by an engineer licensed in New York State. The mausoleum manufacturer or the mausoleum owner provides the name of the contractor, who is subject to the approval of the cemetery, and the insurance requirements, to the cemeteries governing body.

The design, specification and construction plans for the proposed mausoleum must be submitted to the cemetery for review and approval. The cemetery or its governing agency may deny approval to construct and place mausoleums to contractors and suppliers whose proposals and/or subsequent work fails to meet accepted standards.

It is required that the owner secure homeowner’s insurance to cover mausoleums for vandalism.

All bases and foundations, concrete and stone, must be full slabs and include a granite floor. Perimeter bases or foundations are permitted upon approval, signature and stamp of licensed engineer.

Any artwork, including designs and lettering, must be shown on the design and specification plans.

A sum of money equaling 20% of the granite price of the mausoleum, as verified by the original invoice, must be placed in an escrow account. These individual accounts will be held by the cemetery for the purpose of completing repairs and/or properly interring contents of the crypts should the mausoleum fail or warranty is declared void. Warranties may become null and void due to:
• mausoleum company may go out of business.
• mausoleum company may transfer ownership and new owners may not honor previously sold mausoleums.
• mausoleum owners all become deceased shortly after purchase, leaving no surviving family members in which to hold warranty.

Escrow monies are payable to Mt. Olivet Cemetery prior to the delivery of the mausoleum. The cemetery will make a reasonable effort to repair the mausoleum before interment is considered.

Cemetery fees related to entombment of remains will be $500 per crypt, payable at the time of entombment.

Full payment for the plot is required at the time any mausoleum plot is purchased.

Full payment for any cemetery fee is required prior to the work that is to be completed or overseen.

For the protection of nearby mausoleums, gravesites and cemetery properties, a representative of the cemetery will be present whenever mausoleum related work takes place. The fee for this service will be payable at the time of the work at the rate of $200 per day. No work or delivery vehicles are permitted to leave paved roadways other than in areas that the cemetery designates at the time of work or delivery.

All landscaping plans must be approved by the cemetery.

Vases and/or urns are permitted in front of the mausoleum only and fully within the boundaries of the plot.

Decorations, plantings, fences and the like along the boundaries of the plot are not permitted.

Portraits or other materials may not be attached to the mausoleum unless they are incorporated into designs submitted in advance for cemetery approval.

Lithochrome or paints are not permitted.

Any and all contractors (including those specializing in trucking, crane work, landscaping, foundation construction and mausoleum construction) must meet the respective insurance requirements of the governing body for the appropriate cemetery. Cemetery must be given a minimum of three business days notice prior to the construction of the foundation AND an additional three business days prior to the delivery of the mausoleum.

All mausoleum-related work and maintenance, including entombments, must take place during regular business hours at the cemetery unless special arrangements are made in advance.

Access to mausoleums will be the same as for other graves in the cemetery.

The cemetery reserves the right to change these terms and/or the prices for related services at any time with reasonable notice.

No in-ground burials are permitted in a mausoleum plot.
